Welcome!
i have lots of exciting things happening on this page.
1st lets introduce the chicken folk.
3rd chicken to arrive. Heritige hen. around 19/20weeks forget the breed name so if you know please leave a comment in the blog section aka 'BB' |
1st two girls, 22 months [?], sexlinks. aka 'The bad Girls' |
last but not least. isa brown, 18 weeks. aka 'the other chicken' perhaps 'mister friendly'? but that sounds too corny |
So my friend and i decided to start our chicken lives at the same time. she has 4 at her place and i have 4 at mine.
We started off with two. We both have pair of 'bad girls'. Her daughter named them that. maybe because they wrent laying eggs, maybe because they are bullies. maybe because we kinda decided we werent too keen on them and that is why we got some more. When we got 'the bad girls' we felt like we'd been scammed. Neither of us no much about chickens. Their beaks were all mangled, they just had an auora of a mean hard life around them. and also they werent laying eggs which is why we got them. They started molting right away and we realized it would be a couple months before we had any more eggs. We wernt sure if they were 14 months or 22 months and were wondering if we got scammed on what we thought was a good deal. [$8 per chicken].
Then we made some phone calls and went to check out a local farmers heritage hens. We were set on getting the 15$ birds, couldnt understand why we would pay $25 if we didnt have to. but once we got there and spent a half hour looking at all the crazy chickens he had and he took us over to the canadian hens that were 15$ each we werent complelled, so he took us over to his more heritage hen selection. instantlky we both changed our minds. i fell for the black on and my friend nabbed and brown white spotted one that she named, umm....something silly like bertha.
[i dont undertstand the naming of chickens and ducks, i dont really understand the naming of anything. my animals kinda chose their names after a while and actually my cat never chose a name. we still just call her minou (french for cat), although i guess calling theblack one BB is technically a name, but its just easier to say and she is a blackblue hence bb]
So we got our heritage hens for 45$ combined.
And we only bought one each cos we dont typaclly have that kinda money but the were so sweet and the are so healthy and will live and lay a long time. We also only bought one because we knew that we had a couple 18week old ladys to pick up the next day and they were laying NOW! and we wanted eggs NOW!. jokes on me though. cos i got a couple days of eggs then she cut out on me. i dunno what happened. it is chily up here. maybe thats it. and at the same time one of 'the bad girls' [here on out known as the TBG's] stated laying at 11pm at night.
So there you go. those are my girls :)
here are their homes.
This is temporary. the TBGs will move into the big coop once i have the time to segregate them cos the tryed to kill BB the first time they saw her.
this is what it looked like b4
SO they have quite a bit of space in there.
i hate caging in an animal as much as the next but my landlord doesnt even want me to have animals. so i have to make sure they dont go over to her house.
But its cover on the top and i cant stand up inside it everywhere and its the size of a backyard in the city.
Here is the self feeder i put together yesterday. it holds a lrg 5kilo bag of food.
