So i live on a northernish gulf island in BC.
I just got an extention on my rental so i know i will be here until at leats next sept 1st [2011]. so that got me all inspired to put into practice all of the things i learnt this summer in my permaculture course. [www.pacificpermaculture.com] also it inspired me to get ducks [ducklings] , which inspired me to get 2 chickens cos i wnat eggs now...that plan isnt really working cos its been a week and tehre are no eggs yet. :(
SO i am going crazy building mulch garden beds, experimenting with swales and all sorts of mulching materials.
one of the ideas behind permaculture is that everything that is taking and needing energy should have more than one function to create the greatest output for the input it is getting.
another idea is that as much of the energy as possible that things need should be coming directly from the outputs in that area and by those entities.
SO my experiments will feed my birds. my birds will fertalize and prep my soils for the next set of growing which will feed me and my family. my experiments are also creating eggs for me and my family and they are helping to rebuild the soils in an area where they are greatly depleted from run off and expose to other elements. They will also give me the knowlegde and experiance to work on my next [much larger] project with more confidence.
